Where Do You Stand
No, no, not what you might be thinking given this week!!! No my question is where do you stand on the holidays?
Stateside we have a fractious election, pondside they've just gone into second lockdown - it's stressful and the holiday season is fast approaching.
There are two schools of thought:
1) we sure as hell deserve a bit of celebration
2) we need to hunker down further
But really it's not quite as simple as that is it?
No one is quite sure whether to celebrate enormously after such a strange and worrying year or whether to continue being low key and say ok this is a holiday season to put to one side.
Self-care and how much we're consciously doing plays a big part in whether we gravitate more towards 1 or 2. People generally want to be around people regardless of whether you're introverted or extraverted, we as a species do better when we socialize in the most basic sense. The degree to which ones practises self-care has a huge impact on our coping strategies and this is true regardless of election and/or pandemic. The holiday season can be stressful for many reasons. This year even more so.
I do think we can actually do both 1 and 2. Whilst it's highly unlikely I'll be popping across the pond to visit my family and they won't be coming here either. We can still celebrate with lovely food, relaxing activities and an appreciation of what we have. We can still live it large, if you like, whilst still being small in number. We will be making use of facetime, zoom and whatsapp so that I can irritate my family even from afar :-)
Food will be consumed, wine will be imbibed and gifts will be exchanged both here and there. It will be different for sure, but it will be fine, just fine.
We will still be shipping our robes and dressing gowns around the world, so no worries there and as mentioned in my last post, there is week-long sale on the horizon. Quite when is unclear as not all the votes are in .... sorry, sorry! I blame too much election coverage in our house. I am signing off now, but at least I didn't use "too close to call"
