Top Ten Things To Do In England This Summer
Last year in fact it was blazing hot from May to the end of August (just about when I turned up, of course) and this year whilst it hasn’t been as hot and sunny, there hasn’t been much rain. In fact we’ve had more this side and not only is there a pond between our two countries there’s one on our front lawn, complete with visiting ducks!
Anyway, onwards lovelies here are just some of the quintessential English events taking place this summer:
Glyndebourne – let’s kick off summer with some truly beautiful warbling and a picnic at opera central
Royal Ascot - the Royal family always turn out in force for this fun week of horses and hats
Masterpiece – if you missed the flower show, pop to this antiques and art collectors show in Royal Chelsea Hospital
Wimbledon – what can we say, our childhood summers included two weeks of glued to the television when we got home from school with McEnroe & Martina
Henley – sounds like people splashing around on the river, trust me it’s not, it’s fast, furious and jolly good fun!
Goodwood Festival of Speed – talking of fast and furious you can either go for the horse racing or the motor car racing the choice is yours
Royal Academy of Arts – see the finest all medium art offerings at their summer exhibition which has been around since 1769!! Who knew??
Wilderness – amongst one of many music festivals held throughout the UK, this one seems to have taken the family friendly moniker on, it was the niece’s first festival and she went resembling a unicorn in a short skirt….. quite!
Cowes Week – more splashing around this time in yachts off the Isle of Wight in the English channel, typically a little chiller
Notting Hill Carnival – and finish of your summer shenanigans with a romp around Notting Hill Carnival a flamboyant affair and a true taste of London
Wherever you’re off to this summer, besides taking an umbrella we can’t stress the power of taking a good dressing gown with you! And not just because of what we do! It comforts us should we be feeling homesick, it comforts us should we actually be physically ill and it can always double up as an extra item in one’s travel wardrobe!
Safe and wonderful travels lovelies xx
